Project Description
The overall objective of this project was to replace aging Grid Transformers A1MT & A2MT (132kV/33kV 45/90MVA) at Netley Common with two new Transformers A1MT & A3MT (132kV/33kV 45/90MVA). New protection and control equipment will also be installed, replacing old systems. The project provides a future space for a new A2MT transformer by removing the existing A2MT transformer and all the associated 132kV equipment.
Due to network constraints, an in-situ replacement of the transformers is not achievable and therefore an offline build of a new transformer – A3MT – was the only option available. For this reason, the 132kV substation compound needed to be extended to the West in order to make room for the new transformer and 132kV switchgear.
Stage 1 & 2 works
Offline build and substation extension for A3MT bay and associated 132kV equipment and the extension to the 33kV busbars for the connection of C3T0 and associated 33kV equipment. Installation, connection, commissioning and energisation of all A3MT bay primary and secondary equipment. Transfer of Botley Wood 2 circuit to the new A3MT grid transformer bay.
Stage 3 works
De-energisation of A1MT grid transformer and the transfer of Botley Wood 1 circuit from the A1MT grid transformer bay onto the existing A2MT grid transformer bay.
Stage 4 works
Removal of A1MT grid transformer and associated equipment.
Stage 5 works
Installation, connection, commissioning and energisation of new A1MT grid transformer and associated 132kV and 33kV equipment
Stage 6 works
Transfer of the Botley Wood 1 circuit back onto the new A1MT grid transformer bay followed by the energisation of the new A1MT grid transformer bay and all associated equipment.
Stage 7 works
Removal of A2MT grid transformer and associated equipment.
