SUSTAINABILITY POLICY PO-18
P T Contractors Ltd fully supports the ethos of sustainable development: -
“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”
We strive to deliver sustainable solutions guided by our Core Values. It is important to us to emphasis the social, economic and environmental impact of our business in everything we do, and this policy reflects our commitment to ensuring that sustainability is considered through all our business decisions.
Deliver sustainable profitable growth while satisfying our ethical, legal and contractual obligations.
The Directors are therefore committed to continually improving the integration of sustainability into our procedures and business processes. Our aim is to play a proactive role in contributing to achieving sustainability where we have influence, whether with our clients or our suppliers. Demand sector-leading Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance from our own teams and our subcontractors.
We further understand that sustainability is not just about protecting our environment, our industry relies on large numbers of people to deliver its services and we are hugely dependant on the commitment, skills and adaptability of our workforce. P T Contractors will continue to promote a positive image of the industry amongst the young people in our local area, recruiting them, engaging them, training them and offering them the opportunity to progress.
Commit to measuring our impact through Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality performance data, employee engagement surveys, customer satisfaction feedback and our financial performance.
We are assessed and 3rd party verified by Carbon Footprint to minimise energy use, both at head office and on site, thereby cutting our associated CO2 emissions, by purchasing energy efficient equipment and encouraging good general housekeeping. We will investigate the use of renewable energy sources.
We will analyse the company’s recorded GHG (Green House Gas) emission data annually and aim to uphold our company objective ‘To reduce/minimise the amount of CO2 emissions from our driving/transport activities -reduce CO2 emissions by 3% year on year’. We will produce an annual Carbon Reduction Plan in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for carbon reduction plans. Our CRP is posted on the CaDi Database Portal hosted by Carbon Footprint.
Staff will be trained in Environmental Awareness, particularly with regard to the risks associated with their own specific tasks. All employees will institute the company’s pollution prevention guidelines on site. These guidelines will encompass land, sea & air (including noise and or dust pollution).
We will encourage ideas and innovation, internally and with our supply chain, that can create financial savings and benefit our customers, society and environment.
We have implemented waste management measures in order to ensure that the company adheres to the recognised ‘waste hierarchy’ – Eliminate – don’t create unnecessary waste; Reduce the materials that are ‘over-ordered’; reduce the materials that are damaged by instituting improved storage methods – minimising the waste of raw materials: Re-use waste materials on other sites or investigate third party usage of large quantities: Recycle materials wherever possible – paper, card, concrete blocks & slabs, steel, timber, waste oil, excavated soil (general waste will also be processed by a third party in order for them to reclaim further materials); Dispose – ensure that our waste is disposed of legally and in a responsible manner and in line with compliance obligations Waste Duty of Care code of practice and Environmental Protection Act 1990.
PTC engage in lean processes and accurate material procurement to minimise waste generation.
PTC engage in actively planning for Lifecycle Management as detailed in the Lifecyle Management Procedure PR-09-03.
Our Purchasing Guidelines reinforce the utilisation of recycled materials (e.g. crushed concrete instead of aggregates) and materials from renewable sources. We will liaise with our clients to ensure that these materials meet their required specifications at the right price.
Our employees are encouraged to minimise their water usage, especially in welfare facilities – not leaving taps running; reporting leaks etc., flush savers or ‘hippo’ bags will be fitted to all staff toilets to reduce our water consumption.
The company will maximise the use of local suppliers/subcontractors and a local workforce to reduce the need for transportation. Site employees have transport provided from home to site, reducing the potential number of cars associated with Company business. Improve resource efficiency, sustainable consumption, and production, throughout the whole supply chain from design through to operation.
The Directors recognise that in pursuing the Company’s objectives, there is opportunity to protect its immediate environment and by exercising proper control over its activities we will promote the use of sustainable resources and discourage wasteful or damaging practices.
